Did I just title this with a Miami Sound Machine lyric? Yes, yes I did. Remind me to discuss that with my therapist.
Today marks not only the ever-popular, ever-dreaded Valentine’s Day, but four years ago today, Kathy and I joined forces as the Wonder Twins of blog design. On February 14, 2003, we started BlogMoxie, our original venture. As we both had full-time design jobs, we just wanted to earn a some extra cash for cocktails or perhaps that hot new lip gloss at Sephora. I don’t think either of us anticipated that day what would become of our little side-project.
And here we are! Four years, well over four hundred projects, six redesigns, a handful of growing pains, a half-dozen moves, several martinis and one baby later: Moxie Design Studios℠ «— now a (pending) registered trademark ®! (Go ahead, you can “Ooo!” We did. ha!)
We’d planned to launch a long-overdue redesign today, but we’ve been packed with clients who deserve our attention more, so that will just have to wait until we can get a free moment. We also still have that Super Secret Project that we can’t mention yet which is also taking up considerable time. We are so excited about it and can’t wait to share it with everyone.
On a personal note, I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished here with Moxie. We went from two relative blog novices to one of the most popular blog design firms around at the time to a well-established and consistently busy small business/boutique/personal website team in under four years. We’ve been praised on national radio, judged design contests, been interviewed, spoken at events and conferences and generally just rocked. I never dreamed this would be my life and sometimes I really have to pinch myself.
The fact that I’ve done all of this with my best friend makes it even better. We have ups and downs just like anyone else, friends or colleagues, but she can talk me off a ledge like no one else and for that, along with myriad other reasons, I adore and respect her like crazy. She’s truly the ying to my yang if you can say that without sounding dirty. I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else. Plus, she makes a tasty cocktail!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours. If you’re not going out for a romantic dinner, you can spend your evening like me: gorging yourself on conversation hearts and watching The Notebook.
